A scientific symposium at the College of Law on Amendments to the Personal Status Law
Under the patronage and attendance of the respected President of the University, Professor Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad, the College of Law at Fallujah University organized today, Tuesday, December 24, 2024, its first scientific symposium for the academic year 2024-2025, under the title "Amending the Personal Status Law: What it has and what it does not".
The symposium was attended by the respected Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Suleiman Barak Al-Jumaili, the respected Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Raed Naji Ahmed, the respected Dean of the College of Applied Sciences, Professor Dr. Muhammad Jabir Al-Mahdi, in addition to a number of faculty members and students of the college.
The symposium, which was moderated by Professor Dr. Ziad Tariq Jassim, included three main axes; The first axis, in which Professor Dr. Adel Nasser Hussein lectured, addressed the societal need to amend the Personal Status Law, while Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Saleh Latif shed light in the second axis on the extent to which the amendment proposals are compatible with the principles of Islamic Sharia; In the third axis, Dr. Thaer Hamed Awad discussed the suitability of the amendment proposals to the Iraqi social reality, reviewing the expected effects of these amendments on the family and society.
The symposium aimed to open an extensive scientific dialogue on the proposed amendments to the Personal Status Law, and their impact on various segments of Iraqi society.
This symposium comes within the framework of the university's keenness to contribute effectively to the community dialogue on urgent legal and social issues, and to provide scientific visions that contribute to the development of Iraqi legislation in a way that achieves the public interest.
